Atocha i cementario
Hiszpania - Madryt

I don't feel like getting up in the morning, it's so cold agin. Nothing like a radiator is here, either. I go out barely at half past ten. I buy a few things in a chinese shop (not expensive).
I take a metro to Atocha. I wanted to see the trains very much. But it's like at airports here - it's not possible to get to a platform without a ticket :( I can see a few trains partly from the upper level, through a dirty glass.
But instead there is a jungle in the main hall - the jungle in the middle of the city :) Exotic plants grow under a glass roof, there are even babana trees, which are tall almost like the whole hall. There's also a small pond covered with green duckweed with many turtles swimming :) I could watch them the whole day, but I have so many plans for today.

Wsiadam w metro i jadę do końcowej stacji La Elipa.
I take a metro to the last stop La Elipa. I wanna see Cementario de la Almudena – one of the biggest cementaries in Europe. They say about five millions of dead rest here. It's cold and foggy so the atomsphere for such a place is perfect.
And the cementary is really huge! It's here from the end of XIXth century, but the oldest graves I find are from 1924. Many of them are completely destroyed, maybe these are the oldest ones? Some people have great tombs - like small houses. And the other 'only' a small space in a wall of thombs, I don't know it's name, there aren't such things in PL. And some ashes are just spilled on the grass near the entrance.
On most of the tombs 'no te olvidan' inscription is writen, it means 'we won't forget you'. The place is incredible, it's worth comming here.
PS. Yes, there are similar 'tombs' in PL, too. After cremation only a small plate lefts in a wall of similar plates. In Madrid there were niches to put flowers for example.

To symbol Madrytu. Na środku placu stoi pomnik króla Carlosa III na koniu i dwie fontanny. Najbardziej ozdobny budynek z zegarem to Casa de Correos. Dziś jest on siedzibą miejscowych władz.
I walk back to the metro and this time I get off at Puerta del Sol. There used to be a Puerta del Sol here - a gate. The square was built in XIXth century. It's a very interesting place, noisy, full of people and with interesting things to see.
There's a bear eating fruits from madrono tree, I'm not sure what is that tree, I've read a few different informations. It's a symbol of Madrid.
In the middle of the square there's a monument of the King Carlos III sitting on a horse and two fountains. The most decorated building with a clock is Casa de Correos. Today it's the seat of local administration.
And there's the advertisement - the Tio Pepe neon, but it's not possible to see how nice it is during the day. And all of the streets look like I'd like to get into them.

Najładniejszy budynek to Casa de la Panadería.
But I walk to Plaza Mayor. It's old name is Plaza del Arrabal, Plaza de la Constitución (a few times), Plaza de la República.
It doesn't impress me a lot, I liked Piazza San Marco more. It's a bit empty here, maybe because of Monday, maybe siesta time and it's still cold unfortunatelly. Only in the middle of the square a lonely monument stands - it's King Philip III, on a horse of course ;) This place looks more interesting on an old painting - it used to going on here!
The most nice building is Casa de la Panadería. It has a rich history, it was destroyed many times, it used to be a seat of the gild of bakers.
I find a touristic Information, I go in for a while to warm up.

I have a plan to go east but one of the streets is so pretty that I can't not to walk it. I walk and walk turning into more nice streets. Palacio can wait, it's so pretty here! I find smaller and bigger squares, Plaza de Jacinto Buenavente, Santa Ana, Plaza del Angel.
Unfortunatelly there's no place to seat at those squares, instead of the cafes. So i choose a staircase with a hostel - it's opened and I sit down for a while up there. It's nice to sit on such nice wooden stairs! I don't know what kind of wood it is but it's colour is beautiful. Well, most of the houses have such staircases here, I take a look to a few more.
