Kiedyś służył on jako ratusz i więzienie.
Now i can come back to the main plan. San Isidro is closed, I can only take a look at the courtyard of the institute - there is a school. They say the church would be opened in the evening, but in the evening I'm not gonna be here.
I go west, passing by Plaza de la Villa, with Casa de la Villa. It used to serve as a city hall and a prison. Torre de los Lujanes is one of the oldest buildings in Madrid but it's not very special.

Wielki plac z wielkim pałacem za wielką bramą, a tuż naprzeciwko wielkie rzeźbione drzwi do katedry. Wejście ponoć od Calle de Bailén. Ale z tamtej strony też pozamykane.
Więc okrążam katedrę jeszcze bardziej i trafiam zamiast do katedry do krypty (2 euro). Hmm, wchodzę z rozpędu, ale warto było. Właściwie wygląda to wszystko na w miarę nowe. Krypta to właściwie taki mniejszy kościół, część katedry.
And then from behind the buildings I can see the cathedral. Actually it's name is Santa María la Real de La Almudena. It's huge! I go to the courtyard to see Palacio Real. It impresses! A big square with a big palace behind a big gate, and opposite big bas-reliefed door to the cathedral. The entrance is from Calle de Bailén. But it's also closed.
So I walk farther around the church and get to the crypt (2 euro). Hmm, I go in just like that but it's worth it. Actually it all looks quite new. The crypt is a part of the cathedral, like a smaller church. In the naves there are many private chapels with altars (some of them made of beautiful colourful mosaics), where the dead are buried. I wonder what one needs to do or to be who to deserve to rest in such a place? ;) There is also place for the dead in the vaults with still empty walls.
But I like the atmosphere here the most. Choir music is comming out from speakers, so I sit down for a while, again far from the touristic noise. It's a peaceful and quiet place, good for contemplation if someone feels like.
At the end I try to stumble a question about the cathedral. The guard says it's closed, untill march I think, but I didn't understand why ;) But I guess there is nothing to regret, the church is quite new, finished in 1993.

Katedra pięknie podświetlona i Palacio też.
When I go out, it's starting getting dark. The cathedral and the Palacio are beautifuly lit. I walk around making photos.
In front of the Palacio there's small but green and well maintained Plaza de Oriente (the name doesn't come from oriental but from the orientation of the square - eastwards from the palace). It looks very nice. There's a small pond with a fountain and a monument of King Philip IV this time, sitting on a horse of course ;) There's an interesting story connected with the monument. The designer Pietro Tacca was affraid that the horse could collapse because of it's own weight. Galileo (very familiar person for me) helped - he suggested the front of the horse should be empty inside and more light and the back more heavy :)
On the sides there are monuments of old spanish kings and one queen. I look at the figures, I like it very much. Some kings look like warriors and others like they prefer courtly living then war.
I walk also to Plaza de Isabel to see the opera from the other side. The whole square is during renovation so there's nothing interesting to look at.
My supper is kebab nearby (3,50 euro), very good and filling.

I go into the streets again. I have no plan, I just wanna walk a bit more. I walk up and get to Grand Via.
There are nice and big buildings (this mania of sizeing is in the whole city). I walk east and then south to get to Plaza del Sol. I wanted to see it when it's dark and here I am :) The square is living, like during the day. The Tio Pepe neon shines with beautiful colours :) The buildings are nice lit, the clock at Casa de Correos strikes a full hour.
I go back to Grand Via and go into a few shops, there are sales, but nothing interesting for me. Well, there are many shops here, many people, everything is opened.
There's a crowd at Plaza del Callao, but I don't know what's up so I just walk by. I like this place, but... I realize that I have enough of a big city and I'm glad that I leave tomorrow.

Grand Via prowadzi mnie do Plaza de España. A tam wysoki pomnik Cervantesa z Don Kichotem (z którym wszyscy robią sobie zdjęcia).
Grand Via leads me to Plaza de España. And there is a tall monument of Cervantes with Don Kichot (everyone is making photos with him). Well, I like the olive trees the most ;) OK, it all reflects in the pond quite pretty ;) This place doesn't impress me a lot somehow, maybe it's because of darkness, maybe because I'm tired? But I can see Palacio from here ;)
On the other side of the street there's a nice building of a senate I guess. And on the other side of the square there's a second fountain. And also two buldings Torre de Madrid i Edificio Espana - they used to be the tallest buildings in Madrid.
I go back home from here, it's colder and colder and I'm very tired already.
